In our short-term skilled nursing and rehabilitation Seaport and Harborside Units, our expertise is in managing the smooth transition to rehabilitation care for patients who come directly from hospitals.
Orthopedic rehabilitation is our specialty; we take a team approach to recovery with our rehabilitation and nursing services for total knee and total hip replacement surgeries.
Some of the features of our program include:
- A pre-op meeting with our admissions coordinator
- Tour of the facility, including a typical patient room
- Chance to meet the medical and rehab staff
- Pre-registration paperwork completed in advance
For our rehab staff, the patient's healing process is our entire focus. Our team of licensed physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and licensed therapy assistances has extensive acute hospital or acute rehab experience in geriatrics, orthopedeics, and cardiopulmonary and neurological interventions. We provide a comprehensive program of rehab therapy seven days a week, all with the goal of "getting you home."
We are proud of our orthopedic rehab services, which are designed to streamline your admission and discharge process and give you the best chance for a speedy recovery.
We maintain our standards of a 5-8 day stay for a total knee replacement and 10-14 day stay for total hip replacement by working with you or your family member to develop an individual treatment plan based on "care mapping" the planning and charting of daily goals and progress. The rehab staff is led by Karen Oster, a certified physical therapist with more than 20 years experience.
We also expertly treat patients with other medically complex conditions, such as:
- Stroke
- Heart attack, congestive heart failure and other cardiac occurrences
- Cancer
- Unstable diabetes
- Chronic respiratory diseases
- Generalized functional decline (due to prolonged hospitalization)
For all our short-term patients, we offer highly skilled nursing services in:
- IV therapy
- Pain management
- Post surgical care
- Wound care
- End of life care
Short stay patients receive extensive nursing and rehab services from a team led by nurse managers Mary Amara, R.N. and Martha Smith, R.N. Our focused individual treatment plans are designed to bring you or your loved one to the highest functional level as quickly as we can.
Because we know a positive mindset is a vital component of healing, we provide our patients with varied recreational activities, as well as personal care amenities such as a beauty salon. We also encourage and accommodate the active involvement of family members in the patient's recovery.
We accept private pay, , Medicare, commercial insurance, and managed care health plans, such as Harvard Pilgrim, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and Tufts, Medicaid, and long term care insurances.
Marina Bay offers a 22-bed Lighthouse Neighborhood to meet the needs of residents with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. Here, we promote a Habilitation approach to daily living for the residents, always with a focus on their successes. Our staff on the Lighthouse Neighborhood is led by program manager Eileen McCarthy, R.N. and Janiel Ervin, who oversees patients' activities. The entire staff is trained and certified to care for Alzheimer's patients and the unit is certified by the Alzheimer's Association. The Habilitation model is based on maximizing the residents' current abilities. As Alzheimer's patients are not going to get better, we must make them feel as safe and comfortable as possible.
The activities program is designed to give the patients a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. The daily routine is important in providing this type of feeling. The structure increases residents feeling of safeness. Often activities are added to provide appropriate stimulation, but the daily structure is key.
You will also notice some physical differences on the Lighhouse Neighborhood. The floors in the resident rooms are low gloss. This can help with orientation and decrease falls. Each bathroom is painted Cranberry this accentuates the toilet helping to maintain continence for as long as possible. There are two distinct activities areas on the unit as well as an outside patio. Residents are seldom in their room. The neighborhood has a walking path loop so that residents who wanderer can get around without problem.
The Harborside Lighthouse Neighborhood does treat dementia patients who need short term rehab as well. An individualized care plan is developed to meet the appropriate discharge needs.
Marina Bay's long-term residents live in our Bayside or Cityside Units. Those with Alzheimer's disease or other dementias may be appropriate for our Lighthouse Special Care Unit.
Under the direction of nurse managers Cyrus Luke, and Christine Wilcutt, these two units provide residents with a comfortable and lively home where individualized care is the standard. With many years of combinedof service, Cyrus and Christine, along with their staff, treat residents like family while offering the highest quality medical care.
Skilled nursing care around the clock helps residents avoid hospitalizations, and a full calendar of activities, both inside our facility and out, add to quality of life. We create “neighborhoods” with various sitting rooms to visit with family, and invite guests to the Cinema Room, Beauty Salon, and Aquarium Room.
Trips to shopping, dining, the beach or even the Quincy Symphony take place twice each month. We welcome entertainers into Marina Bay, and also offer pet visits, religious services, and the old favorite Bingo, all with the goal of keeping residents busy and engaged.
